Sentry staff members from the Albuquerque, NM office recently volunteered at the Ronald McDonald house for families of cancer patients as part of the Sentry SMILES program.
Several local Sentry community association managers and other staff members volunteered for the day. The team spent the evening cooking a meal for families currently staying at the facility.
The Ronald McDonald House of New Mexico was established in 1982 and is a 30- bedroom lodging facility that offers temporary lodging and services for families with ill children being treated in the metro area. The charity relies heavily on local volunteers to maintain and grow the program.
“It is so important that we contribute to the community that we live in and are a part of. I am so glad for the opportunity to help these families that are going through such a hard time,” Carol Rickert Asbury, Sentry Albuquerque Division Manager said.
The Sentry SMILES program is funded by the company and its employees who opt to donate portions of their paychecks to give back to community members in need. The way it works, Association Boards inform their community manager when there is a specific need due to a tragic event like fire, flood or other personal hardships. The SMILES program also encourages employees to contribute to local charities within their communities. Over 100 local charities and causes are supported by the employees of Sentry offices in 16 different states.
“On top of this great opportunity to help out the community, it is also a positive team building experience for our staff members as well,” Carol explains.
